2011

Before we get started take time to think about the reason you are journaling. It will help to direct you as you write or create.
There are so many reasons to jouranl. We journal for our health, for our mental health, for creativity, for release of stress, to heal our wounds, to document our lives for future generations, to SHOUT SHOUT get it all out, for self exploration, to find out what holds us captive so that we can break free. What ever your reason for journaling in 2011 I welcome you with open arms.

Please send me a note or post a comment when you have your journal ready and are ready to begin.Remember a journal can be anything from paper stapled together to a store bought blank book. We will start on January 1st of 2011. It will be easy to catch up if you miss a day or a few days by simply looking in the archive post.

Peace,
Susan

I am busy getting organized for you. I will let you know what that means on the 30th.

Bring It On

Bring It On..2011 that is.

I have the entire 2011 Your Life Spelled Out written so I should be able to stay on track.

The past few months have been a roller coaster and I want off. If ever I needed to journal through a time, it was then. There has been joy but also much sorrow and grief.

If you plan on journaling through Your Life Spelled Out in 2011 be prepared to forget about the fluff. We are going to dig and dig deep to discover all the things that we have spent years burying . That is the only way to be free of them.

Hope to see you here on the 1st. Let the journey begin!

Christmas Letter

A Christmas Letter to the People I Love

The Christmas letter will be a little different this year. The focus will be on lessons learned instead of what has happened in our family this past year.

My little friend Olivia passed away on December 11th. She was a light in the lives of so many. She taught me so many things in our few years together. She taught me that

· You must love with ALL of your heart ALL of the time, even if you know you may hurt in the end.

· If you don’t like the way they cook your bacon, send it back.

· If you want to create art you should stop talking about it and just do it.

· Always think of others before yourself.

· Some rules really are there for a reason.

· No one else but you can put a voice to your opinion so voice it often.

· It’s alright to have more than one favorite color.

· You can love many people at the same time, all for different reasons.

· Some people are brought into your life for a special reason. Pay attention so you don’t miss it.

· Rocket Popsicles ROCK. Why have just one flavor when you can have three!

More than anything she taught me that one life CAN make a difference in the world. She left me with the desire to try to make a difference in someone’s life each day of 2011.

Oh and the family is beautiful and well. We wish you all a blessed Christmas surrounded by people you love.

I leave you with a favorite poem of mine. I was not surprised to find out that it was also one of Olivia’s favorites.

Hug O'War

I will not play at tug o' war.
I'd rather play at hug o' war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins.

Back in the Saddle Again

For those of you that know me you know that I have been fighting illness since April. You also know that October and November are the most intense months of the year for me as I run and organize an auction dinner to benefit the pediatric Oncology unit at Akron Childrens Hospital. You can read all about it on my other blog www.yourprojectedbear.blogspot.com.

On average we have around 55o in attendance. This project, on top of my other schedule complexity takes over my life. We also have 25 children with cancer that attends and it is my job to make it an extraordinary memorable night for them in every way.

In addition to this a child that I am extremely close to is terminal and I want to spend as much time with her as I can.

So with all of that being said, I apologize for not posting prompts. I will start on Thursday and post prompts to update you.

I am also very behind on my Design Team duties. VERY UNLIKE ME! Again those of you that know me know that I am a SHOW UP girl and really have little tolerance for those that commit and do not follow through on things. This has been a lesson in humility , judgment and PRIDE for me. Ouch. I apologize to my design team peers and to Kelly and Luisa (owners of the teams I design for).It is so difficult to admit that I can not do it all.

Please stop back on Thursday with updates on ScrapFit and Scrapbooking Divas as well as some prompts to start you on the process of catching up!

Love to all,
Susan

Monday, October 4th

Ready To Get Started Again?

Thank you to all of you that have emailed me with your thoughts and concerns. I really appreciate your understanding in my week long absence. I am posting a prompt for each day that I was gone on this post. Thank you again for all the love.

Thursday (last week)

Today we will reflect on forgiveness in our life . Is there anyone you have not forgiven? How do you think your peace relates to your unforgiveness?

Friday

Mind, Body and Spiritual Health

Today we will focus on our mental health. How healthy do you feel? Are you depressed(I do not mean clinically), angry all the time, anxious, worried, pessimistic, mean, edgy, unhappy, constantly complaining? How would a friend describe you. How do you think that you mental health effects your physical and spiritual health?

Saturday

Write down the sentence Where your mind goes your body follows.Write down what it means to you. List an example in your own life that comes to mind!

Sunday

Since we are studying the relationship of Minda Body Spirit, we will revisit this statement WHAT GOES INTO YOUR MIND COMES OUT IN YOUR LIFE!!
Time to check ourselves again. What are you putting into your mind? What are you reading, watching, listening to or participating in?

Monday

Today we are move on to BODY. So, how are you taking care of yourself? How are you eating? Are you exercising? Time for self examination. I will share with you from my own experience. I have been sick too often this year AND I had not been taking care of myself at all. I made a drastic life style change and decided to fast by going macrobiotic for 40 days and to also commit to exercising everyday. I didn't really know how badly I was feeling until I started feeling good again. It has been so long since I woke and and really felt good that is was foreign to me.
NOT recommending that you make a drastic change, but I am challenging you to commit to making one or two small changes for 40 days and see what a difference it makes in your life.

Tuesday

So what changes did you commit to yesterday? How are you going to stay on track? You need to have a plan and write it down. Do you need to share with someone so they can support you during this process?

Wednesday

Name the absolutely worse thing for your body that you eat. How often do you do this?

Name the one food that you never want to give up.

Thursday

Good news! you do not have to give up your one food . It is all about moderation. Decide if having this once a week will be enough. For example, if you say I never want to give up sugar in any form. Decide what that looks like to you and write it down.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Feeling Negative?

Do you consider yourself a positive or a negative person? Write what you feel about that question in detail. We will revisit this subject on Thursday.

Have a fantastic day.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Our 5 year old grandson was with us for nine days recently. On our last day as I was driving him to school I said "I know you are really excited to see mom and dad and go back home and see your toys" to which he replied "but Nana, I just want to have fun and they make me do other stuff sometimes"!

Wow..I can relate. I really want to have down time, create art, work on my charity, spend time with my husband but there is always that pesky work thing. I find that all work and no play really does make me a cranky girl.

The key is balance. There must be a balance . So..take out your journal and write down the area of your life that are in balance and the areas that are not. Now write down what you can do about that.

Have a wonderful day.

Susan

Time Once Again to GET OUT OF YOURSELF!

Get Out of Yourself sounds a bit harsh I guess. But take it from someone that finds every time I do and focus on someone else I feel so much better...no matter what is going on around me.

Those of you that have followed the blog from the beginning know that once a month we have a random acts of kindness day. We send a card, buy a stranger behind you in line a cup of coffee, give someone a sincere compliment , lighten someones load or any act that would qualify for a random act..we do the act anonymously and then we write about it in our journal. How did we feel? If you know how the other person responded write that down too.

Let this quote spur you on.

We wildly underestimate the power of the tiniest personal touch of kindness. —Anonymous!

Have a fantastic "out of yourself" kind of day!

Simple

The pursuit of simplicity is a common goal of many of our readers.

Your prompt today is to list at least five ways you can simplify your life. Now write how you intend to implement them into your life.

Learning to say no is one of the ways I have been simplifying my life this year. I was just asked to be on another fund raising committee for The Veterans Memorial (a wonderful cause) and since my husband is a local politician, community involvement at this level is almost an expectation. However, I am learning my limitations the hard way. I already am on two Boards and plan and execute a dinner/auction each year for pediatric oncology patients through our Children's Hospital. This is in addition to being wife, daughter (I am blessed to have my mother live with us), mother (of 5) and Nana of (3). My plate is full so I said NO! An amazing achievement for me!

Your turn. Pick up your pen!

New Beginings...

So you had all of these plans and resolutions at the beginning of the year. You promised yourself you would change a habit, shed pounds, stop biting your nails, end a destructive relationship. Now it's September and you are feeling hopeless. Nothing has changed.

SO...think of September through December as your new beginning . Start today what you promised yourself you would start in January. Don't dwell on the fact that it has not happened yet, after all..there is still four months left in this year.

WRITE it all down in your journal. What do you want to change ? What are you going to do to make that happen?

Have a lovely Sunday.

Susan

My Stress Buster

We all need an outlet, something that we enjoy, something we can stream energy into, something that will help reduce stress.

Some people exercise, some have hobbies or sports they participate in. There are several other positive outlets.

There are also many not so positive or negative outlets. Some examples are excessive drinking, excessive shopping and excessive eating. When we choose a negative outlet to relieve the stress we are feeling we actually create more stress in the process.

Our prompt today is to write what out outlets or stress busters are. Examine them closely. Are they healthy? How often do you do them. Are you doing them enough?

Have a beautiful day where ever you are.

Sending Love,
Susan

Not Myself

So think of the words not myself as in "I have not been myself lately". Write about a time that you could have described your actions with that sentence and write about what was going on at the time!

Have a great Thursday.

Setting the bar high enough?

Our prompt today is to ask ourselves the question Am I living up to my own expectation of myself? MY OWN..not my mothers, children's, boss, mother, father, spouse or any other person..but MY OWN. What are my expectations of myself? Are they realistic or idealistic expectations? If you don't know, it is hard to live up to them or to reach for them. Get it down on paper. You will see things more clearly.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Gratitude Sunday

Our prompt today is our monthly gratitude prompt. For our knew subscribers I will go over this prompt in detail.

Each month we journal a list of 10 things that we are thankful for. We detail how we are blessed. They CAN NOT be the same ones that you have written before. At the end of the year you will have 120 things that you are grateful for down on paper . This is a wonderful list to refer to when life is difficult.

Have a Fantastic Sunday !

Mind Over Matter

Our prompt today is to write about a time that the phrase Mind Over Matter was a part of our life. A time you had to push yourself mentally to get through what was going on physically or literally in your life. It is important that we remember these times.

Have a wonderful Friday.

Do it in September!

One month can make a difference in your life . It only takes 21 days to form a new good habit.

So our prompt today is to write down 3 things that we would like to accomplish or start in September.

Maybe you have a non fiction book that you have been wanting to read. Read it in September.
Maybe you have pounds to shed. Start shedding them in September.
Maybe you keep saying you are going to get into a fitness routine, have lunch with a friend, start a book club, tell some you are sorry, tell someone THANK YOU, remove clutter from your house. Do it in September!

You get the idea.
Write your thee things down. Share your three things here if you wish because statistics have proven that when you share your goals you are much more likely to follow through and stay committed.

You can do anything for a month..right?

Have a beautiful day.

Susan

The choice is yours!

Everyday we have the opportunity to make many choices that will directly impact the way our day unfolds. Maybe we hit a traffic jam on the way to work. We can be angry and have an immediate sour attitude or we can relax knowing that no matter how angry we are or how much we vent this is really a situation we have no control of. Depending on the choice we have made we will arrive at work calm and ready to start the day or angry and ready to vent and tell everyone about your traffic jam so you can add stress to their day as well.

Our prompt today is to write down a few times that you had choices to make , what they were and how you think it created the day that you had.

have a great day!

Susan

Through Their Eyes!

Our prompt today is to look at ourselves through someone elses eyes. You choose the person. How does you husband see you?, your children?, your best friend?, your neighbor?,your boss?, your employees? Obviously all of these people see you the same in many area but differently in some. Write in your journal how you think (your person of choice) would describe you if asked.

Have a sunny day!

Constant Companion

We have not done this in months and I thought it would be a perfect catalyst to an inward look. So today your prompt is the writing below. Write how it applies to you. Write about how you felt after you read it. Allow your thought to flow on the paper. Do not censor yourself.

Food for Thought...
I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest asset or heaviest burden.
I will push you up to success or down to disappointment.
I am at your command.
Half the things you do might just as well be turned over to me,
For I can do them quickly, correctly, and profitably.
I am easily managed; just be firm with me.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine, though I work with the precision of a
machine and the intelligence of a person.
You can run me for profit, or you can run me for ruin.
Show me how you want it done. Educate me. Train me.
Lead me. Reward me.
And I will then...do it automatically.
I am your servant.
Who am I?
I am a habit.

Have a wonderful day!

Sending Love,
Susan

What Goes Into Your Mind...

What Goes Into Your Mind Comes Out In Your Life! What have you been feeding your mind?

Did you know that what you watch , read and listen to becomes part of how you feel mentally and sometimes physically. Science proves this!

What do you feed your mind with daily? Think about it and journal about it. Journal about what is going into your mind and how you think it is acting itself out in your life.

Do you read before you go to bed?, What are your favorite shows? What are the words to the music you are listening to? Really THINK about this prompt.

When I journaled this prompt I found that going to sleep with Criminal Minds or NCIS on was probably not the best idea. I found that waking up and reading something positive was working very well for me. At the end of my jounraling the final conclusion was that I need to put more positive, uplifting, true things in my mind each day and need to choose what I watch more carefully. No..I did not give up Criminal Minds or NCIS...but I do record them and try not to let them be the very last thing I watch before I sleep.

I think you will be surprised at what you find at the end of this assignment!
Please share anything you wish!

And The Award Goes To..

Imagine that tonight there will be a ceremony and an awards dinner. You have won an award. What would that award be for?

EXAMPLE:
And the award goes to _Diane______ for being the most faithful friend. The award goes to __Lisa______ for her amazing artwork. The award goes to __Emily_______ for enduring great hardship and yet always thinking of others.

You get the point. It could be anything. Your prompt is to write down what the award is for and why.

Have a GREAT day.

Sending Love,
Susan

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Today your prompt is the word Escape. What does that word mean to you? What do you escape into? Some of you are thinking."That's ridiculous, I don't "escape", I am grounded, I am a realist"! My question to you is ARE YOU SURE? When life gets tough what do you dive into? Did you know that escape comes in many forms? Here are a few examples. Spending, Eating, Drinking, Reading, Hobbies, Television, Movies, Drugs (yes even the Tylenol P.M. that you take every single night because you are afraid you will not sleep unless you do), Denial and Relationships! There are many more. I have listed only a few.

Most of the things that I listed are good things. They only become unhealthy when we use them to hide from or escape from pain or the pressures of everyday life. Everything is a balancing act. It is important to recognize harmful behavior, otherwise we will never address it and change it and nothing will ever change.

On Friday our topics will lighten up and will be fun for a few days. You have worked very hard this week and I am proud of you.

Have a fantastic Thursday.

Sending You Love,
Susan

It was the best of times! It was the worst of times!

Your prompt today is to write about two separate times (or perhaps the same period of time)in your life that the following famous passage from Charles Dickens A Tale of Two Cities applies to.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

You have a fantastic day. I will see you back here on Wednesday!

We Have All Experienced It

We have all experienced it..

Maybe it is our economic environment, or our over committed schedules. Maybe it's all the violence on television (and that's just the news)that we take in daily. Maybe it's the size 2 flawless (I promise that is an illusion)models that flash against the billboards, magazine covers and television screens. Maybe it's our weariness, fatigue and hopelessness at the end of the day. Maybe it is the feeling of powerlessness to change our circumstances.

Whatever it is has pushed you around and taken it's tole on you . It is time to push back.

You, my friend have no idea how precious you are. There is only ONE you and I promise you you were created for a purpose. The other good news is that no matter what your circumstances are right now they will change. You are not how much money you have, what you look like, how much you weigh, what your job or title is, who you know, who you are married to, where you live, or what car (if any) that you drive.

It has taken me almost 50 years to get here and I often need reminded.Over those years So today I am reminding you. You are such a valuable part of this blog, you are special and you are loved. More importantly than that you are precious to many (even if you do not see it).

Today your prompt is to write down exactly how you feel about yourself and your life right now. Write about how external things in your life are effecting you (stress, schedule, health, money problems if any)..then take time to write about who you are to those around you. Your children, significant other, parents....
Your are irreplaceable(even if you do not FEEL that way. Feelings are just that..feelings, they do not necessarily have any truth associated with them. There is never going to be another you. You have a purpose in this world . I promise!

Have a blessed day!

Lions and Tigers and Bears OH MY!

Do you remember the scene in The Wizard of Oz when all four of the lead characters were locked arm and arm and chanting Lions and Tigers and Bears OH MY? All of them feeding off of each others fear .

What are your lions and tigers and bears right now?
Are you feeding off of someone else fear or is it your own fear.
Are you facing your fear or running from it?

Questions to ponder on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Have a wonderful day!

Every Now And Then

Every now and then something happens that brings my life into crystal clear focus. It reels me back into the life I am to be leading and erases all the distractions that have been keeping me from that focus. That event this time is the death of my 9 year old little friend Sam. Not only his death, but the process.

I am right in the middle of organizing the 16th annual Project Ed Bear Dinner Auction for about 550 people. (Project Ed Bear is an all volunteer 501c3 not for profit organization dedicated to providing comforts and needs for pediatric oncology patients)

I have been feeling overwhelmed with details. But, the REALITY is children like SAM are who I do this for. This is what it is all about. So...I will let go of the frustrations, I will not feel sorry for myself, I will not complain when things are not going as I think they should. I have been refocused.

Today we will journal about an area in our life that needs refocused. Have you gotten off track? How can you refocus and get back on.

Have a blessed day!

Since it is already the 20th of August we will start this on September 1st. SO , tell all your friends the news that this blog will be hosting an ART JOURNAL Challenge each month and have them post here and tell me that YOU sent them. Make sure that you are a follower of the blog.

The person that refers the most people between now and the end of the month will receive a gorgeous $40 kit that I have assembled just for this event.

I look forward to creating with each of you each month.

Look at all the Hurting people

where do they all come from??

Today I want you to get you journal out and write down people you know (or have never met) that are hurting in anyway you can think of. Need inspiration? Turn on the news or pick up a newspaper. Now write down something you can do to help one or many of the hurting . If you choose to follow through , write down the details. If you choose NOT to, write down why.

Are you involved in service or charity work? What made you choose this charity or this line of work? Post a message on this post and share your story. I will randomly pick one person at the end of the day to receive a beautiful journal.

Here is one of the charities I am involved in. I started Project Ed Bear with my son Ede 16 years ago (he was 11 then) when we discovered he had bone tumors.

My Design for Challenge #26 on ScrapFit

Remeber This Homework Assignment?

Do you remember when you were assigned to bring in a newspaper article on a story or event in the newspaper and tell about it or write about it?

Today we are going to look online, or in your local paper or on your television news and find a story that captures your attention. Write in your journal what the story is and how you feel about it. What made you pick that story or article? If you do get it from a newspaper or magazine..cut it out and place it in your journal as well.

Have a lovely Monday!

Sending Love,
Susan

Challenge #26 is DRESS IT UP

WORKOUT #26

DRESS IT UP!!

For this workout you are to dress up your LO, card or altered art. Use your bling, your sparkle and your shine! Also use some black since The Little Black Dress Kit Club is the sponsor.

Gratitude Sunday

It is that time of the month again. Write 10 things in your journal that you are grateful for. Remember, they can not be duplicates of the things you have written in earlier months this year. They must be new.

For those of you that are new, we have a day each month where we write 10 things in our journal that we are grateful for and why you are grateful if you wish. Then at the end of 2010 you will be able to look at 120 things that you are grateful for or that you consider blessings in your life. What a great way that will be to start 2011.

Have a Peaceful Sunday.

Sending Love,
Susan

The War Within

Our prompt today is to journal about the war within. We all have one. What is the one thing you do over and over that you promise yourself you are not going to do again? Journal about it, about how it makes you feel and what you can do to overcome. Remember..If you ALWAYS do what you ALWAYS did , you will ALWAYS get what you ALWAYS got!

If you are here from the ScrapFit blog hop scroll down a bit to find the links.

Have a Beautiful Day!
