The Letter

In honor of the Memorial Day celebration our prompt today is to write a letter of gratitude to someone who has served in the military. Anyone you wish. Someone from past service or someone that is serving now. It can even be someone who has already passed away (in which case you can write the letter inside your journal). If you choose to do this prompt, please send your letter. If you do not know anyone in the service , you can still write to a solider and the USO will deliver. Write in your journal about doing this and the feelings it evoked.

Second prompt option. I have many members that are not from the United State so I want to give an optional prompt. Your prompt may be to write a letter to someone that you love that has passed and tell them anything you wish to tell them that was left unsaid. You may keep this letter in your journal.

Tuesday I will post the entire list of Art Journal prompts from the beginning so that those that have requested can have the list and do them at their leisure.

TODAY is the last day to post a comment and be eligible for the gift card drawing on Tuesday.

Have a blessed Memorial Day.

Sending Love,
Susan

Walking Through Life

Life is a walk. Each day we take steps. Our tomorrow is determined by the steps we take today. Stormie Omartian

Our prompt today is to reflect upon what you are doing today that will remain with you into tomorrow. An example would be what you eat each day (good or bad) or if you exercise or not could determine your health in the future. What we put into our mind (through television, books, movies, music) could determine our attitude, peace and thought process. One of my favorite quotes is WHAT GOES INTO YOUR MIND COMES OUT IN YOUR LIFE. It is so true!

So pick up your pen and start writing what you are doing that could show up (good or bad) in the future. This may be a real eye opener. Honesty is the key. Unless you are willing to be REAL and completely honest with yourself, this prompt will bear no fruit.

Our Blog SPOTLIGHT today belongs to Keely Yowler. You can find Kelley's work in the upcoming issue of Altered Art. She has been published in numerous magazines. She is currently on the designs teams of Queen Kat Designs, Simply Renee Inc.,Kiki Art and Scrap Tiffany . Her scrap book pages and art is AMAZING. I thoroughly enjoyed taking a journey through her blog and I know you will to.

The Pursuit of Simplicity

The pursuit of simplicity is a common goal of many of our readers.

Your prompt today is to list at least five ways you can simplify your life. Now write how you intend to implement them into your life.

Learning to say no is one of the ways I have been simplifying my life this year. I was just asked to be on another fund raising committee for The Veterans Memorial (a wonderful cause) and since my husband is a local politician, community involvement at this level is almost an expectation. However, I am learning my limitations the hard way. I already am on two Boards and plan and execute a dinner/auction each year for pediatric oncology patients through our Children's Hospital. This is in addition to being wife, daughter (I am blessed to have my mother live with us), mother (of 5) and Nana of (3). My plate is full so I said NO! An amazing achievement for me!

Your turn. Pick up your pen!

Our Featured Blog today is Robins Nest. You can find it at http://tqmnurse.blogspot.com/

This is the blog of Robin Bettis Novac. Robin is a self proclaimed obsessed scrapper and is on the design teams of Practical Scrappers and Sketches by Tamara.

I really enjoy her blog and all of the links she provides and I know you will too.

If you would like to have your blog considered please post your blog address and I will stop on by for a visit or send me an email at smsummerville@hotmail.com

Remember, we have a drawing for a gift certificate from Barnes and Noble or Arcivers (your choice) at the end of the month. All you need to do is to post on this blog or on my BLOOM and your name will be added to the drawing.

Courage

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop too look fear in the face..You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
Eleanor Roosevelt

I LOVE this quote. It speaks to me daily.

Your prompt today is to journal about your fears. Are they holding you back ? from what? Are you letting fear dictate your decisions or the way you are living your life?

What is the thing you must do that you think you can not do?

Do not give FEAR the power to dictate how you live your life, to hold you back from being who you were created to be. Do not give fear a foothold!

I will be featuring a blog each day on this blog as well as the Bloom blog. This will be a blog that I recommend and think you will enjoy.

Our blog feature today is
Scrapping is Cheaper than Therapy. You can find it HERE;
http://keepsakescrafts.blogspot.com/ This blog belongs to Sarah Elliott. She is a creative force. She is also a member of a few design teams. I enjoy her art journals very much. This is the year that Sarah has decided to dedicate herself to her art. I think you are really going to enjoy her.

If you would like to have your blog considered to be featured. Please post your blog address or email it directly to me at smsummerville@hotmail.com

Are You First Rate?

Always be a first rate version of yourself, instead of a second rate version of someone else. Judy Garland

This is one of my favorite quotes. One I often remind myself of. It is a wonderful thing to have mentors and women that you admire but to loose yourself in trying to become "just like" them is a crime. You are an individual perfect creation of God and you have a purpose in your life that is yours alone. When you try to be someone else instead of who you were meant to be you loose out on the BEST of your life.

Our prompt today is to ponder the phrase and then free write any thought you have about it or write about what it means to you.

Have a lovely Sunday!

Sending Love,
Susan

Will the questions never end?

Today is the last day in our series of questions.

Grab your journal, write down the questions and then start answering them.

1. Are you a confrontational person?

2. How do you deal with confrontation?

3. What would you like to confront someone about that you have not out of fear?

4. What are you afraid of?

5. When I am angry, what do you do?

6. Is there anything about myself that I would like to change?

7. What is it?

8. Name five things you like about yourself.

I know that number 8 is not a question but it is the perfect way to end today's prompt.

It's the weekend. Have a lovely Saturday.

A few questions!

As part of our journey this week we will take time to ask ourselves a few questions and we will answer them honestly. Some will be fun, some may be difficult. Write each question in your journal and then write you answers from your heart..be REAL. Don't write what you want others to think or what you think you SHOULD write but how you really feel.

Ready? Here we go!

1. If you had a free day that you could do whatever you wanted, what would that day look like?

2. If you could go anywhere in the world for a weeks vacation, where would that be and why?

3. What is your favorite piece of clothing that you own?

4. What is your favorite room in your house or apartment? Why?

5. Do you have a hobby? If yes, what is it?

6. Is there something that you would like to learn to do or learn to do better?

7. What do you believe about God and how does that reflect in your life?

We will close here for today.

Have a beautiful day.

Susan

Dream A Little Dream

Yesterday we looked at all the things we love to do. Today our prompt is to write down all of the things we are good at or gifted at.What are your gifts and talents?
How can you use the gifts and talents that you have to improve your life? How can you use the gifts and talents you have to improve the life of others.

Do not overlook a gift just because you think it is not really a gift or a talent. For example, some people have the gift of encouragement. That means they are very good at encouraging others. You may not immediately think of that as a gift, but it is.

Have a spectacular day!

Susan

Art Journal Spotlight by Sarah Elliott

DONE! by keepsakescrafts.

The Longest Journey

Sometime in your life you will go on a journey.
It will be the longest journey you have ever taken.
It is the journey to find yourself.
Katherine Sharp

We will be taking that journey together through our journaling. All of our lives we have been influenced by people, media and culture telling us what we should be, how we should act and what we should love.

Are you doing what you are called or made to do or what you have been influenced to think you should be doing?

We have all had at least on REALLY BAD teacher. The one that snarls all the time, is critical and whose classroom you dread to enter. Or we have had the doctor or nurse that seems to have zero compassion.

They are just a couple examples of what I believe are people doing what they think they should do and not what they were called to do. There is no way they can be passionate about what they are doing and act that way.

Our prompt today is to write down things we LOVE to do.ALL things not just the ones that you think are impressive or that you think others would approve. Don't worry if your mom thinks reading fiction is a waste of time. If you really love to do it (and do it in secret) write it down anyway. You get the idea! Don't think about it too much..just free flow write.

We will be working on this through Friday so we will take it in three steps. The prompt I just gave you is prompt number one!

Have a fantastic day!

Sending Love,
Susan

Do you Lift Up or Tear Down?

The Words You Speak Are Powerful!

Can you remember a time when someone said something to you that just devastated you? Do you still think about it? Can you think about kind words that were spoken or words of real encouragement from someone?

My guess is that you can think of both! I certainly do. I can't remember many things but words that were used to tear me down as well as words that were used to lift me up and edify me are foremost in my memory.

Today we will think about the questions asked and write a bit about it. Then we will put our pen down and ponder the words that we speak to others and words we speak about ourselves. Do we tear down or lift up. Do YOU want to be someones memory of being torn down? Write about what you are feeling while doing this prompt. Is there anyone you need to tell you are sorry. This can be healing no matter how long ago you spoke the words. Is there anyone that you need to confront about words that were spoken to you?

You are precious. There is only one you. You are here for a reason and today is the day to stop believing the lies that were spoken to you about yourself. You are valued by many. You are valued by me. You have no idea the amount of respect I have for you for being willing to look at not only the fun prompts, but also the hard ones, like this one. You have the power to uplift or tear down at the tip of your tongue. Today is the day to choose which one you really want to do.You are going to grow so much this year. You are loved. I promise!

Have a peace filled day!

Susan

Time Alone

There is no companion so companionable as SOLITUDE (Thoreau)

I have found that there is no better therapy than purposeful solitude spent in journaling, prayer and meditation. Time reflecting on and recognizing the blessings in my life, what I want my life to look like and how to move towards that goal have all come to me in my times of solitude.

Our prompt today is to take as little as 10 minutes or as long as an hour today to have a quiet time. Pour your favorite beverage and find someplace quiet where you can be sit, be alone and reflect for just a few moments. (Even if that only place is your bathroom). Start writing about what you would like your life to look like a year from now. Pray if you wish. For me prayer is the most important part of my alone time. Meditate on all of your many blessings. Think about how to make your life more simplistic and write what you come up with.

Have a meditative day!

Susan

Who are you?

Many women today feel a sadness we cannot name. Though we accomplish much of what we set out to do, we sense that something is missing in our lives and --fruitlessly--search "out there" for the answers. What's often wrong is that we are disconnected from an authentic sense of self. EMILY HANCOCK

Time to ask yourself this question Who Am I Really?

For the longest time I tried to be who I thought I should be or who others wanted me to be. I struggle with this still and perhaps always will. But today I am more likely to admit my faults and celebrate my uniqueness. I am a girly girl. No apology for that.I am a terrible speller (thank goodness for spell check). I love to create but perhaps not in the same way my peers do. I love glitzy things, to bake,to cook, photography and Jesus. And as much as a Masters in Art therapy appeals to me, I have no interest in going through that many classes (several ones I do not wish to take) at this time in my life. Again, No Apology for any of that.
Still, I find myself trying to live up to some of the titles I have been given by my community (city, county). It is exhausting. Every now and then I need to sit down and write about who I am and ask myself the hard question.."Are you being true to yourself or are you people pleasing again?

Your prompt today is to discover through witting who you are. What do you like to do, what do you like to wear, what do you believe or believe in? Now ask and write about the hardest question..Are you being true to who you are?

Have a spectacular day!

Susan

Smile

Today we will have a random experiment and then we will journal about it. Today smile at everyone you come in contact with (even if you do not "feel" like smiling). Watch their reaction and then write about it. When I did this I was surprised at the reaction and also surprised by what a difference it made in the way I felt and in my day. I did it on a day when I didn't feel like smiling or talking to anybody!

ART JOURNAL PROMPT

Our art journal prompt this week is LEFT OUT

Are You Missing Today?

Are you really living life to the fullest today or are you too busy regretting things from the past or worrying about tomorrow?

Our prompt today is to really think about what we are letting steal our lives from us. Resentment, Regret, Worry, Anxiety, What Ifs are just a few examples of things that can keep you from savoring the moment. Ponder this question and write down what is stealing from you. This is a first step in controlling your thought and not letting them control your life.

Have a Peace Filled Day!

Sending Love,
Susan

What Have We Learned?

Our prompt today is to write about the things you have learned in your life.
How do they differ from what you always thought (prior to investigation)? For example I have learned that being myself is the biggest gift I can not only give myself but also others. When they see the real me (the one that makes mistakes, says the wrong thing or burns the cookies) It gives them permission to be who they really are..who we all really are NOT PERFECT!

What are some of the things that you have learned in your life? Are there any words of wisdom you would like to pass to the next generation?

And before I sign off..remember the woman I told you about yesterday that found out she had about a week to live? She passed away this morning. Do not put off telling the people you love how you feel about them!

Have a blessed day!

Sending Love,
Susan

Wasted Moments of Time

Our prompt today was going to be an entirely different one (and we will have it on Wednesday) but I just read a prayer request from a friend that resulted in changing our prompt to the following.

Do the people that I love know how I feel? If I were to die tomorrow would I have shared me real self with them? Do I waste moments or opportunities ? Have I made a difference in another life? If I were to tell (you name the person) one thing I want them to always remember, what would it be??

I know that is a great deal to write about..but let me share how this prompt came to be.

A friend of mine asked for prayer for her husbands friend and his wife. You see she had been suffering from abdominal pain for several months and her doctor had run several test and took her gallbladder out but when she broke her pelvis by slipping on the ice and the fracture did not heal they started digging deeper. They sent her to John Hopkins and found that she has terminal cancer. The abdominal pain is from a huge tumor that is in her stomach and the cancer has spread to her bones. They do not expect her to make it through the week. THROUGH THE WEEK!!! My friend asked for prayers for her and for her children 10 and 13 and for her husband. My friend was in shock. She had this womans invitation to her 40th birthday party which would have been in 2 weeks in front of her.

We all gasp when we hear this story. It is a very real reminder of how fragile and how precious life is. It also shatters the illusion that nothing like that can happen to us. It can. It does. So after reading this and pondering on it put your pen to your journal and write. Then, I am guessing there will be some action taken, some attitude adjustments, some I love yous said.

Have a great day with no wasted moments.

Sending Love,
Susan

Just one thing!

Today our prompt is to get out of ourselves and do JUST ONE THING for someone else. Write about what you did, for who and how it made you feel. Those of you that have belonged to Your Life Spelled Out for a while know that this is a prompt we repeat each month along with the gratitude list.

Have a blessed day and prepare yourself to dig in on our prompt on Tuesday. It may be a difficult one for some of us.

Our prompt today is to make a list of those women and how they have influenced, encouraged, set good examples and lifted you up.

I wish a beautiful, memorable Mothers Day to all the Mom's here today.

Rocks

Today will will repeat a prompt that was given in February. It is one we will repeat every few months because the message is timeless and because we all tend to pick the rock back up even after we have had the conviction and courage to drop it.

Imagine if you will that you have a backpack on you back filled with very heavy rocks that you CHOOSE to carry with you everywhere you go. Everyday when you get out of bed you strap it on your back and carry it with you everywhere you go all day long. By 10 a.m. you are already weary and hurting. By the time you are home you feel like you can't take it anymore. But you will not or feel that you can not drop the rocks that are inside of your bag. If you took even one of them out you would feel less pain...So the prompt today is to NAME YOUR ROCKS. We can not even begin to start the process of dropping the rocks with the goal of having an empty backpack until we admit that we are carrying them and identify what they are.

Here are a few examples of some of the rock names I have been familiar with during my lifetime:

Anger
Resentment
Fear
Guilt
Low Self Esteem
Past Failure
Past Mistakes
Regret
Self Pity

Do any of these look familiar? The list could go on and on. Many of us have rocks that are uniquely ours.

Today make a list of the names of your rocks that weigh you down and together during our journaling throughout the year we will address them and courageously take them out of our backpack and throw them out with the goal of not picking them back up again!

Have a fantastic day!

Fondly,
Susan

Have a joy filled day!

Susan

Fussy?

What are the things that you are fussy about? Do you like your pants hung a certain way, don't want your food to touch on a plate, have to have a certain brand of mustard, only like to sit in the eight row at a movie theatre or better yet will only go to a certain movie theatre because you like their popcorn best?

We all have at least one thing that we are fussy about. Most of us never really think about it, it just becomes part of who we are.

One of mine is that I really only like Starbucks french roast coffee and seldom drink anything else. If I want a nonfat latte I will ONLY get it at Starbucks and if I am out of the country I won't get them even at a Starbucks because their milk taste different and I would rather have it black. I know....FUSSY!

So today write about your fussiness in detail.

Have a fuss free day!

Susan

Angry?

So how do you handle your anger? When you are angry do you yell, throw things, suffer silently, give the silent treatment to the person you are angry at, pray, look for your side in the situation? Our prompt today is to write about how we deal with anger in our lives. It just might be a revealing prompt!

Have a lovely day!
