Both Prompts Posted

Below you will find today's prompt and the weekly art prompt posted seperatly. They will be posted this way from now on to avoid confusion.

Now go create!!

XO
Susan

I know what you are thinking!

Many of you are thinking "This started a week ago and I am so far behind already..just forget it" or " I don't think this will work for me because I am just not that disciplined" or " I always start out strong but we will just see how long I last".

If you are thinking any of those things you are making it too complicated! Who cares if you do every single prompt? It is YOUR journal! This is a tool to help you write, to help you know yourself and it is to be enjoyable. Don't make it a (things to do today) activity or it will soon become an unwanted responsibility instead of what it is meant to be. Go at your own pace. Write out the prompts that you wish to. Dig as deep as you wish. There are no rules here which is one of the things I like most about Your Life Spelled Out.

At the end of the day I want you to feel GOOD about journaling and about what you have accomplished not bad or guilty about not having done the prompt that day or two days ago. We have enough bad feelings already and this is a tool to help turn that around not highlight them.

Now onto YOUR PROMPT TODAY is..There will come a time while writing my journal that I will become very busy, forget to journal, or that I will set my pen down for days maybe weeks at a time. How will I pick that pen back up? Why would I be tempted not to?

Important questions to answer if you plan to continue keeping a journal. What is your plan?

One of the things that I will encourage you to do if you have set your pen down or if you are stuck is to email me directly. I will try to help you through any block or figure out why you pen has become silent. I am very committed to helping you through this process as I believe keeping a journal is one of the healthiest things we can do for ourselves.

Happy Journaling.

See you Saturday.

Fondly,
Susan

A Day In the Life Of....

Today we will stand back and look a day typical day in our lives right now. What does that look like? Do you have a routine?, a job that you go to every day?, children that you care for?, or a scheduled time to do things? Or maybe there is really no order to your life at all, maybe each day is random...write down YOUR experience.

I find this prompt an important part of finding out where our time is spent and also a way to help us identify the things that we really want to do that we are not making time for (like writing in your journal)! So write the things down that you are not fitting into your schedule today that you really would like to do. Then write ways that you can incorporate them or at least one of them next week. I have to schedule everything in because when I don't, it simply does not happen.

Some of you are thinking "You don't understand my life, I have no time or That is just selfish to think of my needs, I have people to take care of"! Let me remind you that as women we often take on the caretaker roll and never include ourselves as one of the people we take care of. This results in resentment, burn out and often there are health consequences. It is important to rest, exercise, do something you enjoy occasionally and to take care of you. This is not a selfish move. It would ONLY be selfish if you did ONLY what you wanted to do and at the expense of others.

For those of you that know me well (BUSY or LACK OF TIME) is my middle name. So your are preaching to the choir on this one..I promise!

This is always a self talk prompt for me as I , like many of you, struggle with taking time for myself. It is something I must do ON PURPOSE if it is to be done!

Three parts today..What a typical day in your life looks like? What are the things you want to do but have not scheduled time for? and how can you incorporate at least one of things in next week for yourself?

Have a Blessed Day!
Susan

Dust off your Soapbox

We all have at least one cause, thing or subject that we are passionate about. Today we will dust off our soap box , climb up on it, stand tall and give our passion a voice. We will write about the thing we are passionate about and then we will write about WHY we are passionate about it. Explain your reason. This will help clarify and it will also help you articulate your passion the next time you have a real opportunity to stand firm and have courage of convictions. Hmm..and one more thing..if you are REALLY that passionate about it (whatever it is).write down what you are doing to help the cause. Nothing you say?..then brainstorm and come up with at least one thing you can do because every voice and person counts.

Have a fantastic day!

Happy Thoughts

Today your prompt is What Makes You Happy. Some of you are thinking "you have go to be kidding me, that's not a very thought provoking prompt" while still others are thinking "what if I can't think of anything that makes me happy". I challenge all of you that think this prompt will be an easy one to really dig deep. I mean what is happiness really? Do you need to look up the meaning?

HAPPY

1. delighted, pleased, or glad, as over a particular thing: to be happy to see a person.
2. characterized by or indicative of pleasure, contentment, or joy: a happy mood; a happy frame of mind.

There are many small daily things that make me happy.

Example:
When Skip brings me coffee while I am still in bed every morning...
Stopping at Starbucks for a non fat latte
Hearing my grandchildren laugh or even seeing them smile
Feeling organized
Praying
Going to Musicals or Plays
Going to the Movies
Doing ANYTHING Artsy or Creative

and then there are many more deeply rooted areas of my life that make me happy

Example:
A Solid Spiritual Foundation * Because without this there is no REAL Happiness
My relationship with my mother
When our entire family is together
My relationship with my husband
Spending time with my children
Having two friends in my life that I know will always be part of my life
Happy is the feeling I get when I am accomplishing what I need to do and staying on target (a project, a book I am writing, organizing, exercising, eating for my health).
I am Happy that I live in a FREE country

For those of you that stare at the blank paper in front of you and can not think of anything at all that makes you happy..I think it is safe to say you are depressed. This is why this exercise is so important. If you honestly can not find a thing that you are happy about please email me at smsummerville@hotmail.com and I will refer you to some reading material that might help along with a few other prompts just for you.

Have a HAPPY day!

and 10 years from now....

So far we have looked at the past decade, examined the blessings that are in our life now and today we will look at what the next ten years looks like to us. Where do you see yourself in 2020? This is like resolutions on steroids! What are your goals..What do you want your life to look like.

My journaling will involve where I wish to be along with facts that will keep me grounded in reality.

For example, in 2020 my children will be 31 to 41 years old. That means that all of my children will be over 30..that alone blows my mine. My grandchildren will turn 10, 13 and 15 that year. I will have been blissfully married for 23 years and my mom will be almost 80 years old.

I will journal this in my book along with what I want my life to look like, goals I want to have reach etc..

This is an important exercise. I know none of us know what the future holds but this exercise will help direct your path.

Please feel free to share any part of your journal writing in a the comment area after this post or on the flickr group.

For those of you that are new to this blog please note that we have a flickr page dedicated to Your Life Spelled Out and it is by invitation only. It is a great place to share, to upload journal or art journal and to connect with others in the group. If you would like an invitation please send you name and email address directly to my at smsummerville@hotmail.com.

For those of you that are getting your prompts from facebook only and are not visiting or following the blog I encourage you to stop by and visit. There will be many things blog related (such as give aways) that you will only be able to be part of if you are a visiting or following the blog. There will also eventually be links to resources and to other blogs that are related that I know you would enjoy.

Can't wait to hear about how today's assingment has worked in your life.

Have a great Monday...
